FROM POINT A, TO POINT B, TO POINT C...DO YOU SEE?

I don't expect you to see, I didn't see it at first, either. How would I have anticipated that my paper about the comedy in being overweight from a Freshman year course would some how come back to present itself in various forms throughout my Junior year writing minor class? Although looking at my writing now, it seems weirdly obvious that I would choose to repurpose and remediate a document dealing with humor, as it is a concept that often naturally presents itself in my writing today. Regardless of the irony, choosing this document was partially forced (I have limited documents archived on my computer) and partially because I wanted to explore the naturality of humor, rather than leaving it up for simple dissection and analyzing as my Freshman year research paper did.

Noting the importance of humor in people's daily lives, my first idea for the re-working of this paper was actually my remediation project. Because humor is so essential for human beings, I immediately drew a connection to Humans of New York. I thought it would be awesome to model the storytelling and emotional projeciton that HONY so powerfully encapsulates with my own work, adding a thematic humor twist.

After geeking out about my remediation project idea, I was forced to accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to pursue this endevour until the second half of the semester, and I needed to focus on what was in front of me: how I would repurpose the research paper for a different audience and function. After countless class discussions about the importance of writing for "your audience," it finally clicked. My favorite audience is myself (selfishly writing for me, but writing for you, remember?) Not actually myself, but rather people my own age. This drew me to the online millenial-geared blog publication, Elite Daily, for which I drafted two articles for two different sections of the website.

So, I didn't really go from A to B to C, which is weird because I've always been a pretty big rule follower. I guess that's a huge thing this class has taught me. Sometimes you have to take risks and ignore some traditional rules in order to get the results you desire. Basically, this class is borderline sending me to jail. Okay, maybe not jail, maybe just outside my comfort zone, which for some, is just as frightening.
